Our Network in Action
When Mesa County Animal Services rescued more than 30 cats from a hoarding situation involving a camper trailer in western Colorado, they reached out to rescue partners for help.
Feline Rescue Network was able to step in and take fourteen of the cats. Our Shelter Manager drove to Vail early in September to meet Mesa County Animal Services and transport the cats safely back to our shelter.
The cats were generally undernourished, but Socrates’ condition was heartbreaking. She had an infection in one eye that was so severe veterinarians were unable to save it, and the eye had to be surgically removed. Thankfully, the procedure relieved her pain and gave her the opportunity to begin healing.
This rescue is a perfect example of why partnerships matter. By working together, shelters and rescues can move cats from overcrowded or emergency situations to organizations that have the space, resources, and adopters to give them a second chance.
The best part of this story? Every cat transferred to Feline Rescue Network from this rescue has now been adopted into a loving home, including Socrates.
We’re grateful to Mesa County Animal Services for their efforts to save these cats and for trusting Feline Rescue Network to help continue their journey toward brighter futures. Your support of Feline Rescue Network saves cats throughout Colorado.
